Marina Camargo is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans drawings, installations, sculptures, and videos. The use of multiple media reflects the pursuit of a shifting balance between concept and the formal configuration of each work.
In Marina Camargo’s work, the notion of displacement defines a modus operandi for dealing with the established order of the world: either as a physical displacement or as a conceptual shift (where the meaning of things is dislocated from its origin).
A significant part of her artistic research involves maps, through which fissures and distortions are provoked in established narratives and representations, not only formal distorting but also re-situating the relationship with space.
Cartographic, historical, and geographical references are often present in the basis of her projects, together with a search for an understanding of the representation of things.

Marina Camargo’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, such as the Mercosul Biennial (Porto Alegre, Brazil), the Panorama of Brazilian Art (Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo), the Shanghai Biennial (Power Station of Art, China), and the Guangzhou Image Triennial (Guangdong Museum of Art, China), among others.
Her artworks are part of the collections at several institutions, including the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS), Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP), Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (MAC-RS), Museu de Arte Aloísio Magalhães (MAMAM), Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana, Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos, Pinacoteca Barão de Santo Ângelo, Pinacoteca Aldo Locatelli, among others.
Originally from Maceió, Brazil, Marina has spent most of her life in Porto Alegre, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in visual arts from the Institute of Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Currently, she lives in Berlin and Porto Alegre.
From the early years, her work has been marked by an expanded notion of drawing, in which drawing and thought are mutually constitutive and structure the work process itself.
Issues related to cartography began to interest her, especially during the period she lived in Barcelona (where she studied Visual Culture at the University of Barcelona, Spain), when physical displacement became a recurring theme in her work.
In 2010, Camargo received a DAAD scholarship and began her studies at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. During this period, her work focused on specific places, exploring different dimensions of landscape and its representations (such as the Alps, the Pampas region, and the Sertões of Brazil). She later completed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich (AdBK), earning a diploma.
Since 2015, she has been deepening her research on maps, creating an extensive body of work on representations of space, constituting a significant part of her work.
In her video works, Marina explores both narrative construction (through texts and research) and the recording of actions that dialogue with notions of drawing and performance.
